LavenderLilly Bridal Owner Attributes the Business Start-Up Programme to her Successful Start
Two years on from the commencement of her bridal business in Castlederg, Sarah Waugh looks back at her first years in business and shares with us what helped her make it in business.
LavenderLilly Bridal is a unique bridal boutique offering a personal bridal gown shopping experience with hand chosen wedding gowns and accessories from a range of designers.
So how did it all start?“I have always wanted to own and run my own business” explains Sarah. “Over the years it has been increasingly difficult to secure any type of permanent full-time work and that has pushed me to put the energy, drive and commitment into my own business. I have worked in a range of sectors over the years, and whilst working in a florist, it became increasingly obvious to me that people were continually dissatisfied with the lack of choice and the quality of service they received whilst finding their dream wedding dress. As I have an obsession with fashion and a drive to provide a high level of customer service, this was an opportunity for me to create my own destiny.”
What help did you receive for your business?“I took part in the Business Start-Up Programme at Strabane Enterprise Agency. My business advisor was excellent, encouraging me and helping me to gain the confidence to push forward with my dream of opening my own business.”
“It is so calming in a stressful time to know you have somewhere to turn when you are pressured and stressed. It is reassuring to receive information from individuals who hold a wealth of knowledge in their respective areas.”
“From receiving financial advice and devising projections for income to conducting market research and identifying which areas I needed to focus on was a massive help, giving me direction and support.”
What advice would you give to others hoping to start their own business?“When you open your own business with limited resources to start, you soon find yourself upskilling yourself in an variety of different areas, such as marketing, finance, social media, to name a few. You quite quickly realise you need to master a wide array of these skills to start instead of hiring someone to do everything for you when finances are particularly stretched. That’s why I contacted Go For It about the Business Start-Up Programme . Not only did I have my business plan completed on the Programme, but I was also able to gain vital business skills with the one to one sessions with my business advisor at Strabane Enterprise Agency.”
What does the future hold for LavenderLilly Bridal?“I see the future of Lavenderlily Bridal as one which is going to expand and grow with each year. We aim to deliver the best bridal experience in the North West. We look to expand our portfolio of dresses, staff members and premises in the not too distant future. We want to add flower girl dresses and communion dresses to our range as well and possibly shoes. We want to broaden our horizons and look to always reinvent ourselves.”
